HELP US LEARN WHAT WORKS
You're not a test subject. You're a co-builder.
Why This Matters
We believe this framework works — it's built on decades of research and years of real implementation. But believing isn't enough. We're actively gathering evidence, and mentors using these tools are essential to that process.
When you implement steamHouse with your team, we'd love your help documenting what happens. Not because you're being studied — because you're helping build something, and what you learn matters to every mentor who comes after you.
The Measurement Toolkit
We've developed a set of low-burden data collection instruments designed for real-world use — not academic busywork. Seven instruments, organized into three tiers based on what you're able to do:
Minimal (any mentor, ~15 minutes total per participant) Entry form, exit survey, attendance. That's it. If every mentor did just this, we'd learn an enormous amount.
Standard (committed partners, ~60–90 min over a full season) Adds monthly participant reflections and entry/exit self-assessments on our Development Markers. Gives a richer picture of growth over time.
Research-Ready (high-capacity partners, ~90–120 min over a full season) Full package with mentor observations and optional parent survey. Designed to meet standards for formal research partnerships.
What We're Trying to Learn
We're not trying to prove steamHouse is perfect. We're trying to understand what works, what doesn't, for whom, and why. Specifically:
Do participants show measurable growth on Development Markers over a season? Which lessons have the most impact? Does the framework work differently across activities, age groups, or contexts? What do mentors need that they're not getting?
Every bit of data helps — whether it's a single season with one team or a multi-year implementation.
How to Participate
1. Implement steamHouse with your team using the Bootstrap Guides and Core Team Curriculum. 2. Choose your data tier (Minimal, Standard, or Research-Ready). 3. Download the instruments and Quick Reference Card. 4. Collect data as you go — the instruments are designed to fit naturally into your season. 5. Submit your data at season's end.
