Goat Runners Robotics

What is Goat Runners Robotics?

Goat Runners Robotics is a First Lego League competition club run by Fairmount Colorado’s local steamHouse. The team is open to 3rd - 8th graders and meets semi-regularly on Sundays from 3-5pm from late August through November. Registration for the team opens mid-summer and closes at our first session. The cost to participate is $100 and includes crew computer and spike prime robot kit usage, tournament fee, and a team t-shirt as well as roughly 20 hours of robotics instruction! Team members are expected to be in attendance for 90%+ of practice sessions.

The 2025 Goat Runners team consists of 11 awesome kiddos who will work on 3 competition crews preparing for the First Lego League (FLL) Challenge regional qualifier tournament held in early/mid November (date and location TBD). For more 2025 Goat Runner season info, follow our journey on the steamHouse Goat Runners blog!

FLL Challenge is intended for 5th-8th graders, but will allow younger kids to compete. Some crews may not compete in the Innovation Project given time and age which does disqualify them from advancing to the State Tournament.

Why Your Kiddo Should Join Goat Runners Robotics

Coding and basic engineering are engaging and useful media for developing problem solving skills. LEGOs are a familiar favorite toy that has evolved to include Spike Prime, a powerful robotics platform that uses motors and sensors of touch, light and ultrasonics. This provides a great opportunity for purposeful play - learning through fun!

Beyond robotics, the Goat Runners are also exposed to steamHouse mentoring curricular elements about decision-making, teamwork, moving from “I failed” to “I learned”, and more!

What is the steamHouse mentoring model?

steamHouse is developing a mentoring model for project and team based activity that has focus on thinking on one’s thinking, relationships and an awareness of one’s actions and effects. Goat Runners will coach from core introductory bits of that curriculum. To learn more, check out steamHouse whole and great grit blog!
