Conscious Decision-making for Teams
We Will Revote on Team Name Because...
Voting is a popular--and easy-- group decision-making tool. But in its simplest form, it doesn't always give the best result. It might depend on the type of decision a vote is trying to resolve.
Our third and last round of voting on team names ended in a 5-4 decision...and one where some on the losing side had very passionate objections to the result.
When voting, the understanding is that we'd all engage and accept the results of the vote.
In this case, though, our ultimate objective is to adopt a "team name"...so a more conscious process could work to maximize total net positive "yummy" for the team as a whole, and not just to get to one name that the majority likes, but which might be divisive...and so counter to our purpose of team building.
A modest redress here: let's do a process that simply informs voters so they may better weigh both their own preference...and the preference of others--to attempt to better maximize total yummy for the team.
So the revote will be redone in the same three round manner except:
1) We'll allow our one teammate who was absent in the first vote, to contribute candidate name(s) to the candidate list.
2) To better inform the binding voting, we'll first insert a non-binding straw poll to survey votes for people's LEAST liked option.
Then (as before) we'll do a binding voting round for a MOST liked option.
